CORE2017
On October 28-29, 2017, the 1st International Symposium on Coastal Resources and Environment (CORE2017) was
successfully held at Hohai University. It was jointly organized by the Jiangsu
Key Laboratory of Coast Ocean Resources Development and Environment Security,
and the Key Laboratory of Coastal Disaster and Defence, Ministry of Education.
The central topic of this symposium was Coastal Wetlands in a Changing Climate.
This conference invited worldwide scholars and researchers, e.g. Delft
University of Technology, Deltares, University of South Carolina, Cardiff
University, University of Padova, East China Normal University (State Key
Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research), Sun Yat-Sen University, Beijing
Normal University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute,
etc. Nearly 40 experts from the above universities and research institutions
attended this meeting to exchange the relevant research frontiers of coastal
wetlands in the changing environment.
The 1st International Symposium on Coastal Resources and
Environment (CORE2017) aims to build an open academic exchange platform to
jointly discuss the latest scientific research progress in the field of coastal
resources and environment. A total of 18 academic presentations were arranged
for this seminar, focusing on coastal wetlands, through different scientific
perspectives. For instance, small-scale physical and biological processes,
large-scale estuaries and coastal geomorphological evolution, and other latest
research progress.
After the meeting, field trips were arranged to the Jiangsu coasts
and the Three Gorges Project, the Tongzhou Bay site, the Tiaozi Ni reclamation
Project, Dafeng Port, Wanggang New Navigation Lock, etc. These field trips brought
visitors the practice experience of siltation control and using deep coastal
trenches to build ports in China.
The success of this conference has promoted the exchange of
participants and gained attention in the field of coastal engineering. The next
CORE conference was announced to be held at Hohai University in 2018.
